ATTRACTIONS

The township of Bacchus Marsh is nestled on one of the world’s most fertile valleys – 40 minutes west of the heart of the CBD of Melbourne, 35 minutes east of the city of Ballarat and 40 minutes north of the port of Geelong.

It is renowned for several things, most notably it’s beautiful “Avenue of Honour” – 281 magnificent Canadian Elm trees which line either side of the eastern entry into the township – planted in 1921 by the locals to commemorate each resident who served in World War I. It is one of the most spectacular entries into a town anywhere in the world.

There is a marvellous array of locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables and other home grown produce such as free range eggs, honey, jams, plants and herbs which are all available fresh from the growers in road side stalls along the Avenue.

There are many activities available to visitors such as world-renowned bush walks in the Werribee Vale Gorge, Wombat State Forest and the Lerdederg Gorge areas, horse riding, rock climbing, abseiling, fishing or merely “hanging out” in one of the many antique, craft or coffee shops. Numerous activities take place such as antique fairs, art shows, the annual dance competitions, horse racing, motor-bike meets, the National Holden Car Rally, the Great Bike-Vic Ride and antique car ralleys to name a few.

Speed Boat Racing on the Exford Weir & the internationally renowned Calder Raceway at Sunbury 30 minutes away as well as the local Bacchus Marsh Speedway at Parwan 10 minutes away.

Several wineries are within a few minutes drive for those wishing to enjoy a leisurely day having lunch or merely sipping the local product.

Strategically located between three cities, day trips to any are well worth while for their many visitor attractions, then a leisurely drive back to the quiet country ambience and fresh air for a peaceful nights sleep. Day trips to the Daylesford and Hepburn Springs area for the many craft shops or health spas, or any one of the local wineries and country pubs are a must for both overseas and interstate visitors, or those merely wishing for a quiet weekend.

Whatever your needs are, Ellerslie Homestead B&B and Bacchus Marsh can offer each and every one a delightful stay in an atmosphere filled with peace and serenity.
